Gardening and Sweet Potatoes

We had a family workday in our garden yesterday, complete with mud boots for all of us (thanks to Grandpa & Nana!).  Gardening has been a fun outlet for Nathan and I and at times has provided some much needed produce when we haven’t been able to go to town.   The things that have grown best are green beans, tomatoes, and cucumbers.  We have also enjoyed a few American sweet potatoes in the last month!  It was almost one year ago that our friend, Louie, brought us some sweet potato stems.  The journey to getting actual sweet potatoes has been a rough one between turkeys and cows and bad soil conditions.  Finally, we have several large plants (from which we’ve dug a few scrumptious potatoes) that are doing very well, and we’ve been able to plant about thirty more from cuttings of those original plants.  It was a long wait for that first bite, but it was oh so sweet!  We are looking forward to many more in the coming months!
