Crashing in the London airport |
I'm happy to say that I'm writing this blog from the shores of Lake Victoria in Uganda...ah, the feeling of home. Our flights back were long, but uneventful. The kids slept well and Nathan and I slept some, so I would consider that a success in itself! We were greeted at the airport by several of our good friends here, and the warm greetings have continued over the past ten days. What a joy to be reunited with the people we love here! Our first week started out slowly with a lot of time spent just unpacking and moving back into our house. (I would like to say an extra thanks to everyone who has helped us with our house. It was so great to start our time off this term with a house to live in!) However, things soon picked up speed since our first group of the August school holiday came out on Sunday and they have been here all week. Thankfully, our other staff members have covered most of the responsibilities allowing us to jump in gradually. This group is the first of many in the coming weeks, so we would appreciate your continued prayers for our staff here as we host each of them, teach them, interact with them, and overall just live the gospel among them.
Below are some funny observations we've made over the last week as we've transitioned from living in America to living in Uganda. Hope you enjoy them!
You know you are in Africa when...
- you iron socks and pajamas (not for looks but for fear of mango flies!)
- your kids' bath water is brown when you dump it out
- your daughter's favorite food has now become posho and beans (the same daughter who refused to eat beans while we were in America)
- you have to scold your children for rinsing their toothbrushes out with water from the sink
- your ten month old son now eats four or five bananas a day (and would eat more if you let him!)
- you hear the deafening sound of torrential rain on a metal roof
- a man asks you to help him move the bones of his dead grandfather
- you have to chase monkeys out of your garden!
