Jinja girls

I (Kendra) had the opportunity this last week to help lead a camp for street girls from Jinja, the second largest city in Uganda. The girls come from a very rough background. Not only have they grown up in the slums of Jinja, but they also are Karamojong, a tribe that is despised by many of the tribes in the area. Their lives have been very difficult thus far and their main hope of improvement has come from the organization that has taken them under its wing, providing food, shelter, and education. Our focus for the camp was to show these girls what faith in God looks like by teaching them about various women of faith in the Bible and by opening our own lives to them as well. At first, they were very reserved and would barely look us in the eyes, but by the end of their time they were attentive and openly interacted with us. I especially enjoyed seeing the way that their worship changed throughout the week, going from looking at the ground as they sang to dancing around singing at the top of their lungs. It was such a blessing to be able to share God’s Word with these girls and to see God at work in their hearts.
